this is the time of year where I start pulling out my christmas recipes and browsing threw them. I like making rain dear droppings, water gate salid, jinger bread cookies, and all sorts of things, I wanna know what you guys make around christmas time. and I want to swop recipes.
...rain dear droppings, you say
Think I'm a bit too shy to ask what all this is about {lol}
Say, maybe you've heard of, Wind Pudding?
btw~ Don't think we've met so I'd like to take this opportunity to say Hi.
"Hi and Hello, and Great Holiday Cheer to ya!"
never heard of wind pudding. but, lol, basicly raindear droppings are just peanuts or what ever kind of nuts you want drizzled in eather white chocolate or dark chocolate and there in little clusters so i'm sure you can guess where the name raindear droppings came from. there aussom!!!!
Oh those sound interesting, I have a Christmas party next weekend and was going to make chocolate-covered almonds for it but those sound more fun. My family does a lot of baking around Christmas so there's always a ton of yummy stuff in the house this time of year. My favorites are cookies and brownies with peppermint patty candies inside. We also stuff oranges with cloves and use those as decorations. The combination of scents is pretty interesting.
this year i'm making fudge, peanut clusters, or as mona calls them, reindeer droppings, pretzel joys, potato candy, cherry mash, and that's probably about it. i want to try to make peanut brittle sometime.
Mmm fudge, we made that last year. And my best friend always makes peanut brittle among other things. She's an incredible baker.
I really love peanut briddle, and have tried to make it but it ended up like rubber, bleh. but I really wanna try again.
yummmmm, what in the heck is cherry mash, sounds so so so good.
I don't do the baking, my husband does, but this year it's fudge (3 batches), truffles, pumpkin roll (2), cream cheese cookies, potato candy (not for us) and what ever else he has enough left over to make. LOL. My husband loves baking, and if anyone wants any of these recipes or: Gingerbread, Holiday Cookies, Kringles Cookies, Nut Brittle (where you can use any nut you want) or Peanut Brittle; just let me know. I keep a folder that I put any recipe that sounds good or we create in. :)
i would love a recipe for potato candy. it is so good. apparently it is not a dc thing because many folk around here are clueless as to what it is. I've had it up in pa dutch country and love it. my favorite christmas treats are russian tea cakes, chocolate mint chip cookies, and cut out iced cookies.
Ok, here you go:
Potato Candy
Ingredience:
potato
confectionary sugar
peanut butter
1. Soften small potato in microwave, or, by boiling it on the stove top.
2. Mash and whip small potato.
3. Mix in confectionary sugar until potato makes nice ball.
4. Roll out mixture until smooth.
5. Spread peanut butter over mixture.
6. Roll up mixture with peanut butter on the inside.
7. Slice roll.
Hope you like it. :) I don't eat it because of the sugar...But others my husband makes it for go crazy over it.
Let's see...what are my mother and I making this year....
S'mores bars (Honey Graham cereal, melted marshmellows and chocolate chips)
and
Scotch-a-roos (Rice Krispie Treats with a thick layer of butterscotch and chocolate
I think. But everyone in the family makes a few desserts, so it's a whole grab-bag.
Hi all, I am making Cream Cheese fudge, Cinnimone Sugar pecans and almonds, chex mix, Buck eyes, pinwheels, cheese balls, cookies, and dips. I can send recipes to whom ever wants them.
Merry Christmas
Colleen
To stuff oranges with cloves and use those as decorations, haven't done that in what seems to be ages, krisme.
Just another arts idea. Take melted plain wax, add liquid pine acent {can be gotten at some places that sell art's like supplies - CAUTION- some of these scents can be NOT healthy to consume - NOT TO BE EATEN -
THEN Dip in Pine Cones
Set on wax paper to have wax dry and harden {CAREFUL - WAX is HOT HOT!!}
When dry, remove from wax paper and can use for Scented Decoratons for around home for the Holidays. {Just an idea when maybe others are around the home and doing baking -- This more so for apart of a Family-group Gathering}.
thanks for the potato candy recipe. it looks wonderful. i'll try it tonight. also, i'd appreciate the person with the buckeye recipe passing hers along. my daughter and i were talkin about these the other day.
OH my god I love peanut brittle so much, and fudge, man I love fudge.
LOL, the fudge we make is so simple I don't even have to look at the recipe...But creamy!!! Now the peanut brittle on the other hand...So, are you wanting the recipes? Or, was the comment just that? *grin*
Here is the Buckeye recipe
1 ½ cup peanut butter
½ cup butter soften
1 teaspoon Vanilla exstract
4 cups of powder sugar
8oz package of chocolate chips
2 tablespoon shortening
1. Line a baking sheet with waxed paper; set aside.
2. In a medium bowl, mix peanut butter, butter, vanilla, and confectioners' sugar with hands to form a smooth stiff dough. Shape into balls (about the size of two teaspoons). Place on prepared pan, and refrigerate
Melt shortening and chocolate together in microwave safe bowl, and stir occationelly.
Remove balls from refrigerator. Insert a wooden toothpick into a ball, and dip into melted chocolate. Return to wax paper, chocolate side down, and remove toothpick. Repeat with remaining balls. Refrigerate for 30 minutes to set.
Merry Christmas!
Ever since I can remember, my aunt has made peanutbutter marshmallow cups. She makes other things too, some of which vary from year to year, but those have always been Mom and my favorite.
they don't make an eight ounce bag of chips. can you use two 4 oz bars of baking chocolate?
Can I get the recipe for fudge? That sounds so good!!!!!
